Flac is an audio format that prevent the loss of quality but its lighter than an average WAV file.
FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec. It means that its similar to a MP3 but the quality is generally better.
FLAC is freely available and supported on most operating systems, including Windows, "unix" (Linux, *BSD, Solaris, OS X, IRIX), BeOS, OS/2, and Amiga.
What do I mean when I said its OPEN and FREE I mean that the specification of the format is fully open to the public to be used for any purpose (the FLAC project reserves the right to set the FLAC specification and certify compliance), and that neither the FLAC format nor any of the implemented encoding/decoding methods are covered by any known patent. It also means that all the source code is available under open-source licenses. It is the first truly open and free lossless audio format.

This file extension and 3GPP2 are the new standarts for third generation multimedia files, most mobile devices nowadays use this standard for all multimedia files (mostly videos).
It is based on the ISO base media file format and it is very similar to MPEG4. It was designed to be a very small file for the mobile phones, it stores video streams and audio streams in different formats.
Some devices uses the file extension MP4 instead of 3gp to store this kind of multimedia file.

AMR stands for adaptive multi-rate, it is a audio compression format optimized to store speech.
It is far better than MP3 as it is optimized to work with the bandwidth of the human speech so all extra information is trimmed.
It is used by many mobile telephone handsets that let you store short recordings in AMR format. There also some applications that let you convert regular audio files to AMR file format.

MP3 file extension is one of the most common file extensions. If holds highly compressed music, it also strips parts of the wave the human hearing cannot distinguish.
As WAV files are the raw audio, MP3 files only holds the information you need, you can hardly distinguish the difference in quality so you don\'t have to think it twice, use MP3.
Nevertheless MP3 license is not open, so you better watch out if you are a software developer using a MP3 music file inside, if you need a open source format please see the OGG music format called Vorbis which is free a in most cases even better than MP3.
